GST and Australian tax information.

How TapText handles GST, ABN, and what you need for your BAS.

The short version

All TapText prices are AUD inclusive of GST (10%). Your invoice shows the GST line separately so your accountant or bookkeeper can claim input tax credits if you're registered for GST.

TapText's tax details

  • Trading entity: The Trustee for Broad & Co. Family Trust
  • ABN: 89 687 217 914
  • Registered for GST: Yes

What you need for your BAS

Each TapText invoice is a tax invoice. The GST line is broken out. Your accountant claims this as G11 (capital purchases) or G14 (purchases for input-taxed sales) depending on how they categorise SaaS. Most categorise it under non-capital purchases (G11).

Note. We're not your accountant. If you're not sure how to categorise the expense, ask yours.

What if I'm not registered for GST

Most micro-businesses (turnover under $75k) aren't required to register. You still pay the full price including GST, you just can't claim it back. The invoice still shows the GST line, but it's informational for you.

What about overseas customers

TapText is for Australian businesses with an Australian website. We provision AU mobile numbers and route through AU SMS infrastructure. If you're billing from overseas with no AU presence, drop us a line at hello@taptext.com.au, but the product probably isn't a fit.

Why GST is included, not added

We absorb GST so the price you see is the price you pay. Most B2B SaaS quote ex-GST and surprise you on checkout. We didn't want to do that. The trade-off is our headline numbers look slightly higher, but they're the actual numbers.

Twilio costs and GST

Twilio (the SMS infrastructure underneath TapText) is a US company. The cost of holding your AU number is bundled into your TapText plan price, you don't pay Twilio directly. We handle the GST treatment so you don't have to.

Receipts vs tax invoices

Every TapText invoice is a tax invoice (per ATO guidance). They include the wording "Tax invoice" prominently. There's no need to request a separate document.
