Forwarding to your personal mobile.
How to get widget messages forwarded to your personal phone, when to use it, and what counts against your SMS cap.
How it works
By default, TapText sends the visitor's message as an SMS to your business phone (your TapText AU number's "owner" mobile, set during signup). When you reply on that phone, the reply goes back to the visitor.
Forwarding is the same idea but to a second number. If your business mobile is one phone and you also want messages to land on your personal phone (or your partner's, or a 2IC's), forwarding sends a copy.
Setting up forwarding
- Go to Settings, Forwarding.
- Click + Add forwarding number.
- Type the AU mobile to forward to.
- Hit Send verification code. We'll text a 6-digit code to that number.
- Enter the code on screen to confirm the number is yours and you have permission to forward to it.
- Save.
Now every inbound widget message is forwarded to that number as well as your primary business mobile.
It costs you outbound SMS
Forwarded messages count against your monthly outbound SMS cap, same as any other outbound. If you forward to one extra number, every inbound message uses 2 outbound SMS instead of 1 (one to your phone, one to the forwarded phone).
This matters for capacity planning. If you're on Base (150 outbound SMS) and you set up forwarding, your effective conversation capacity halves.
Tip. If forwarding pushes you over your plan cap, look at Build instead. The extra SMS often costs less than the convenience is worth.
When forwarding makes sense
- You and a partner share the business. Both want to see leads in real-time.
- You've got a 2IC who handles bookings. They get the message, can respond from the inbox without you needing to forward by hand.
- You want a backup phone. If your primary phone breaks, forwarded messages still arrive on the second number.
When forwarding is overkill
- You always check the dashboard. Forwarding is a phone shortcut. If you live in the inbox already, you don't need it.
- You're solo and only have one phone. The default delivery to your business mobile is enough.
Removing a forwarding number
Settings, Forwarding, click the trash icon on the number. Forwarding stops immediately.
Multiple forwarding numbers
You can add up to 3 forwarding numbers. Each one is verified separately. Each adds 1 outbound SMS to every inbound widget message, so the cost stacks.
