Pausing your account.

Going on holiday, taking a break, or shutting up shop temporarily? Here's the practical way to do it.

The honest version

TapText doesn't have a dedicated "pause" button right now. We've left this article in place because operators ask, and the answer is: you've got two practical options. Pick whichever fits your situation.

Option 1. Going on holiday for a few weeks

Don't cancel. Just adjust your business hours and auto-replies.

Set business hours to closed for the dates

In Settings, Business Hours, untick every day for the holiday period. The widget still loads, customers can still send messages, but no inside-hours auto-reply will fire.

Update the after-hours auto-reply with the dates

Something like:

"Cheers for the message. We're closed on holiday from 10 March to 24 March. I'll text you back when I'm back at it. If urgent before then, ring 0400 XXX XXX."

This keeps the lead in your inbox for when you return, and sets honest expectations.

Don't reply while you're away

The whole point of going on holiday is to actually go on holiday. The auto-reply has done the work. Reply when you're back.

Option 2. Taking a break for several months

If you're stepping away for longer than a month, cancelling and resuming later is more cost-effective than paying for a service you're not using.

What gets preserved on cancel-and-resume

  • Conversation history (within the 5-year retention period)
  • Saved replies, tags, and settings
  • Your business name and account details

What doesn't survive

  • Your dedicated AU mobile number. After the 30-day read-only window post-cancellation, the number is released. You'll get a new one when you reactivate.
  • Active widgets on your site. The script returns 404 after cancellation. Customers visiting your site won't see a widget.

Steps

  1. Cancel via Settings, Billing, Cancel subscription.
  2. Optionally, remove the TapText snippet from your website (or leave it; once cancelled it'll just fail silently).
  3. When you're ready to come back, sign up again with the same email. We restore your data and you pick a new AU number.

What about partial pause

"I want to keep the inbox active but not pay for a month" isn't a thing right now. The plan covers everything (the number, the widget, the inbox) as a bundle. We may add a paused tier in future if there's demand.

Email us if you've got a specific situation

Long-term medical leave, business sale in progress, seasonal operator with 6-month windows. Each is a different conversation. Email hello@taptext.com.au with the situation and we'll work out the best path. We've made one-off arrangements for operators in unusual cases before.
