Verifying your AU mobile number.

After you create an account, this is the next step: getting your dedicated AU mobile number live.

What you're doing

Every TapText account gets its own dedicated Australian mobile number. That number is what appears on your customers' phones when they receive an SMS from your business. It's separate from your personal mobile (which we only used for signup verification).

Step 1. Open the number screen

From the dashboard, go to Settings, then Number. You'll see a Provision number button if one hasn't been allocated yet.

Step 2. Pick a prefix (In development)

By default we'll auto-pick from any available 04 mobile prefix. If you want a specific area code (some operators like to match where their business is based), pick from the dropdown:

  • 0400 to 0419
  • 0420 to 0439
  • 0440 to 0459
  • 0460 to 0479
  • 0480 to 0499

Aust mobile numbers all start with 04 regardless of the holder's state, so this is purely cosmetic.

Step 3. Confirm

Click Provision. We'll allocate a number from the pool and tie it to your account. This usually takes a few seconds.

Step 4. Test it

Once provisioned, you'll see your new AU number on the screen. Send a quick text from your personal mobile to that number. The message should appear in your TapText inbox within a few seconds.

If it doesn't, see SMS isn't being delivered.

Can I pick a custom number

Not at the moment. We allocate from a managed pool of pre-vetted numbers. If you want a vanity number (specific digits, easy to remember), we don't currently offer that, and the carriers don't make it easy to do at our scale.

Can I port an existing business number

Not at the moment. TapText numbers are dedicated to TapText use. Porting an existing landline or mobile into TapText would require it to be the only place that number lives, and most operators want to keep their existing number for voice calls. We may add this in future.

What happens to the number if I cancel

The number is yours while you're on a paid plan or trial. After cancellation and the 30-day read-only window, the number is released back to the pool. Once released, we can't get it back. If you sign up again later, you'll get a new number.

Failed provisioning

If provisioning fails (you'll see an error banner), see Number provisioning failed at signup.
